Punishment isn’t a dirty word. People are perfectly happy to talk about science and use scientific terminology when talking about training dogs, but stop short when it comes to the word ‘punishment’. There, the terminology generally gets replaced by unscientific terms. ‘Corrections’, ‘negative consequences’, ‘penalties’ etc … If they are applied properly, they all punish. That’s their purpose.
